Revoking a previous power properly and verifying that a document will be accepted for its intended use.
Almost every legal matter in Egypt that you cannot attend personally starts with a power of attorney. It is how a lawyer buys an apartment for you, files a case on your behalf, completes a marriage or divorce matter, or handles a company registration while you stay abroad. Done correctly, the power is your proxy's key to everything you authorize. Done poorly, it causes delays and rejection.
There are two common routes. First, you can appear before the Egyptian consulate or embassy in your country, which certifies the document issued under Egyptian formal rules. Second, you can sign before a public notary in your home country, have the document legalized (by apostille where that convention applies, otherwise through your foreign ministry and the Egyptian representation), and add a certified Arabic translation. Which route suits your matter should be decided with your lawyer first.
Under a foreign-issued power we regularly: buy and sell property and register it, follow up marriage contracts and divorce procedures, establish companies and open bank accounts, appear in civil and family litigation, and complete inheritance matters. For property specifically, see our buying property in Egypt guide.
Authorities and banks check that the power is authenticated, current and not revoked. A power that is outdated, incomplete or lacks the required certification can be rejected — costing you time and fees. We verify acceptance requirements for each specific authority before you spend anything.
You contact us first. We prepare the exact Arabic text of the power for your matter and explain the certification route in your country. Once the certified power and translation are ready, we handle the matter in Egypt from start to finish, reporting to you regularly in English or Arabic.
